Departing Sydney at 0600 and only 90 minutes from Sydney, the Central coast has some beautiful habitats and bird species not found so easily in Sydney. Ourimbah Rest Stop is a great place to start. We look for Bassian Thrush, Regent Bowerbird, Green Catbird, Yellow-throated Scrubwren and other rainforest species.
We then head off to Central Coast Wetlands (Pioneer Dairy)where over 230 species have been recorded, including a variety of waterbirds and Red-rumped Parrots. Tuggerah Wetlandsis close by and has a variety of waterbirds as is McPherson Road Swamp, where we may see the giant Black-necked Stocrk.
Palmdaleis an exciting stop for Australian Logrunner, Noisy Pitta, Rose Robin and White-headed Pigeon.
Final stop is St Huberts Island to locate the elusive Bush Stone-curlew.
Expect to identify 80+species. Arrive back in Sydney around 1800.
