Newcastle highlights encompasses a range of habitats. Shorebirds, bush birds and swamps are the go to on this one day tour.
Starting early, we go to Ourimbah rest stop to see Bassian Thrush, Regent Bowerbird, Topknots and bush birds.
Then we head to Stockton Sandspit to catch the tides to see migratory curlews, whimbrels and plovers. We may see Terek Sandpiper, Red-necked Avocets and Mangrove Gerygones.
A short drive takes us to Ash Island for a variety of habitats including estuary, mangroves and open swampland.
Hunter Wetlands is our next stop for lunch and the ponds. Magpie Geese, Wandering Whistling Ducks, egrets and ducks can be seen here.
Our last stop is Hexham Swamp for Swamp Harriers, Hobby, White-bellied Sea-Eagle and White-fronted Chat.
A big day with 80-100 expected to be seen.
